Ubaid Madonna and Child
UBAID MADONNA AND CHILD (36” X 48”) Oil on canvas
This controversial painting causes some to wonder if it is celebrating the dominance of the Reptilian Race which many believe dominates our world. But it is actually an historical piece which documents the discovery of hundreds of tiny sculptures in the Iraqi desert one hundred years ago. Little is known of this civilization except that it predates the Sumerians by at least a thousand years. The sculpture I have chosen to paint represents (as far as I know) the first-ever depiction of the Madonna and Child., a strange snake-like “Queen” with clothes, a Crown, and a suckling baby. Since the Ubaid statues are all unpainted and quite tiny I felt someone should make a life-size colorized version of this historically-significant piece of art. Because of this I believe this painting actually belongs in a museum. But until that happens, it could be yours instead. And what professor of archeology wouldn’t be proud to have such a work either in his or her office or library?
